Seattle Composers Alliance

The Seattle Composers Alliance (SCA) is a non-profit professional organization made up of working composers, students, and others interested in professional music composition. The SCA was created so that composers could gather with their peers in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere and share knowledge, experience and information. SCA also has an agenda: special forums and seminars of interest to our members, expanding Seattle’s reputation as a center for musical creativity, and educational outreach to our community. The goal of this project is to to serve and enrich the communities for whom composition is at the center of their craft, as well as attracting attention and notoriety for their organization.

SCA’s mission is to serve and enrich Seattle-based communities for whom composition is at the center of their craft.

SCA's goals are to:

  1. Bring Seattle composers together in a non-competitive atmosphere to share ideas, disseminate pertinent information, and attract guest speakers of interest to the group.

  2. Publicize the organization through concerts, sponsorship by other professional organizations in an effort to promote the SCA and the Seattle composers’ community as a whole.

  3. Expand so that SCA includes a large enough membership to support small functions and attract the attention of larger, national organizations.

SCA Activites:

  • Monthly reading sessions where composers workshop works in progress and have a safe-space to experiment and inquire into the underpinnings of the craft.

  • Monthly “Composers Hangs” where composers have a chance to meet and discuss developments in the field, in a low-pressure, non-networking environment; creating time to build community.

  • Monthly board meetings.

  • Annual General Membership Meetings.

  • Annual Call For Scores and concerts.

  • Providing an online membership directory.

  • Providing an online resource directory for our members.

  • Educational events bringing in leaders in the community for industry-related seminars and writing techniques for instruments
