WHAT IS CHINOOK WAWA? Chinook Jargon (also known as chinuk wawa) originated as a pidgin trade language in Cascadia long before the first European explorers arrived, incorporating elements of the Wakashan, Salishan, Athapaskan, and Penutian languages. After contact, many new words were added from French and English.
Cascadians Against Hate Coalition Forming
In a statement released, the Cascadians Against Hate Coalition stated that it "does not promote, permit, or condone any behaviors or actions of a sexist, racist, derogatory, or discriminatory nature . . . Moreover, we outright condemn all hate groups, their actions and ideas, as they run contrary to the core Cascadian bioregional beliefs and tenets. These groups threaten to undermine the sacred relationship between biodiversity and nature, which is the crux of life."

In 2010, the Northwest region saw its first proposal for large-scale coal exports. Shortly after, a policy and research non-profit called Sightline started tracking the region's fossil fuel transportation. With the help of a wide span of communities, tribes and First Nations, environmental supporters, and many other organizations and individuals, nearly every proposed project by the coal, gas, and oil industries they opposed has been defeated.
