New Game Mirror's Edge Catalyst will be set in the Dystopic Future Nation of Cascadia

In fun news, the prequel to the 2009 massive hit video game Mirror's Edge will take place in the futuristic city of Glass, the third largest city in the future nation of Cascadia with a population of nearly five million. The action adventure parkour style game will be set in three central districts, with players choosing from one of three factions the Conglomerate, the Runners, and the ominously-named Black November.

In Mirror's Edge, the player controls the protagonist from a first-person perspective as she is challenged to navigate across a gleaming city, by jumping between rooftops, running across walls, and gaining access to buildings through ventilation shafts. This is accomplished by use of techniques and movements inspired by the discipline of parkour. According to senior producer Owen O'Brien, Mirror's Edge aims to "convey strain and physical contact with the environment", with the goal of allowing a freedom of movement previously unseen in the first-person genre. In order to achieve this, camera movement pays more attention to character movement. While weapons also play a role, the focus is on the person, and is not a traditional 'shooter'.

Today, the Conglomerate rules the nation of Cascadia. But long before the corporations took their shared place on the throne, a nation called OmniStat once rose from the Regression, the Civil War divided OmniStat into three parts, of which Cascadia was one, and the November Riots propelled the Conglomerate to power.

The Conglomerate is made up of 13 corporations which rule the nation of Cascadia, but constantly compete against one another as well. The Runners are a resistance style group that live off grid outside the thumb of Conglomerate society, making their money as thiefs and couriers. The third faction, Black November, is a violent resistance group that seeks to “terrorize the authorities and incite a general revolution among the employs,” and is becoming less picky about who it makes a target.
