Washington State has finally passed industrial hemp legislation ~ now what? Let’s learn how to farm it, and farm it right! Attendees will join Washington’s own industrial hemp expert Joy Beckerman of Hemp Ace International for the presentation "Industrial Hemp Farming Basics" along with an update on Washington’s new hemp law and the current creation of Washington’s hemp program by the State Department of Agriculture. Joy will also introduce regenerative, nature-mimicking agronomic practices such as cover cropping and integrated pest management that will promote the brightest future for farmers and our precious soil. Joining remotely from Canada for the Q&A session will be renowned industrial hemp agrologist Jeff Kostiuk, B.Gs, T.Ag, CCA.
Jeff, who is the Director of Operations for Hemp Production Services & Hemp Genetics International, has served agriculture via the Government of Manitoba for over a quarter of a century, and became a Diversification Technician in 1999 as Canada began to reintroduce the industrial hemp crop into its agricultural systems. Jeff managed the day to day activities and data collection on Applied Research Farms for the benefit of farmers, agriculture researchers and the farming industry. In 2013, Jeff began to serve as a Diversification Specialist as well as the provincial contact for Industrial Hemp Variety Development in Manitoba, also managing the Parkland Crop Diversification Foundation, an applied research organization. Jeff’s contributions to the industrial hemp crop in North America are immeasurable.
We will address all points of industrial hemp agronomy, including field preparation; cultivar selection; crop rotations; sowing; fertilization; weed, disease and insect control; harvesting, drying and storing; and equipment. If you’re considering applying for a hemp cultivation license in Washington State in 2017, don’t miss this free opportunity to learn!
